Christmas Eve Luminaries in Flemington

Part of the role of the Grafton High YLA organization is to have students volunteer and take part in community events.  On Christmas Even in Flemington, Mr. Zukowski and Caitlin took part in such an activity.

The Flemington Lions Club organizes a Christmas Eve Luminary every year.  This year, the Lions Club was short handed to set up the luminaries.   The luminaries are made up of a gallon milk jug that has a hole cut into it's side to place a candle in it.   Caitlin had volunteered to help out with setting up the luminaries.  Over the period of two hours, Mr. Zukowski and Caitlin had set up 100 luminaries, cleaned up corn stalks from Flemington Days in September, and then lit up the 100 candles.

Not all the luminaries survived a long time due to some candles being too tall and they lit the containers they were in and a few hours later, all the luminaries were extinguished due to a rainstorm that took place that evening.

It is a goal of members of Grafton's YLA organization to volunteer with other community groups and support their goals and mission.
